Unemployment tax sticker shock expected for all employers

Employers will receive their 2021 unemployment tax rate notice in the next few weeks, and sticker shock from a 3 to 6 times increase is expected, according to preliminary analysis provided by the Employment Security Department.

Washington Retail has been anticipating and working with stakeholders on this concern especially for smaller retailers who now must operate at only 25% occupancy, starting on Tuesday, Nov. 17 of this week. The increase multiples actually would be higher for employers with good experience ratings on their unemployment tax.
